Перевод «Алисы в Стране Чудес», созданный Ниной Михайловной Демуровой, стал классическим для нескольких поколений русских читателей и переиздавался более 200 раз. Переводчица—которая является также крупнейшим специалистом по творчеству Льюиса Кэрролла—сама подробно объясняла сложную историю этого перевода и его принципы. Наше переиздание классического перевода Н. М. Демуровой связано с текущим проектом издательства «Эвертайп» по использованию этого русского текста как «основы для „вторичных“ переводов». Мы занимаемся поиском переводчиков «Алисы» на новые, в том числе неславянские, языки, на которых говорят в России и еe окрестностях; многие из этих языков—редкие и исчезающие (большинство из них—тюркские). В мае 2017 г. Нина Михайловна любезно дала нам разрешение на переиздание еe перевода и его использование как основы для переводов на новые языки. Мы использовали один из последних вариантов «академического» перевода, который редактировала сама Н. М. Демурова.

Nina Mikhailovna Demurova’s translation of "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland" became the canonical text for generations of Russian readers and has been reprinted over 200 times. The translator—who is also a pre-eminent Carrollian scholar—herself explained the complex history behind this translation and its main principles. This new edition was inspired by our success in recruiting a number of translators living in and near the Russian Federation to embark upon translations of Alice into their own languages. Most of these are Turkic languages, and many them are rare and endangered. One of our goals in reprinting Demurova’s translation is related to the Evertype initiative to use her Russian text as a template for secondary trans­lations. We received Nina Mikhailovna’s permission to reprint her translation and use it as a template for new, secondary translations, in May 2017, and we based the template text on one of the most recent versions of the “Academic” translation, which Demurova corrected herself.
